Legless, cantilevered, four flat planks folded into a Z — the Zig-Zag chair by Gerrit Rietveld, the Dutch cabinetmaker who gave us the Red Blue chair & the Schröder House!! Designed between 1932 & 1934 for that same house in Utrecht, it is De Stijl reduced to one piece of furniture: no legs, no arms, no stiles, nothing left to take away.
Originally elm, now Italian Ash, the joints dovetailed & then bolted, because a cantilever has nowhere to hide. Far more comfortable than it looks & it works as well pulled up to a dining table as it does standing alone against a wall.
Made to order in the Urban Architecture Masterworks Collection. Solid ash.
