Archizoom Associati's Sanremo lamp of 1968 crosses the kitsch of the Italian song festival it is named after with the West's fantasy of the exotic: a tall metal trunk sprouting glowing acrylic fronds, like an artificial palm. Group member Dario Bartolini designed it as a wedding present, and remembered: "Since we were supposed to be practicing architects, many people often couldn’t grasp what we were up to. In reality, many of our objects were created for reasons other than architecture: an engagement party, a wedding. Any opportunity was good enough to materialize our vision of the world!"
