About this piece
Eileen Gray took the name from the transatlantique, the folding deck chair of the great ocean liners, and gave it a modernist frame: a lacquered wood structure with chromed fittings, and a padded seat slung between its sides like a hammock. She registered the design with Jean Badovici in 1927 and used it to furnish the lounge of E-1027, their house on the coast at Roquebrune.
Made to order in the Urban Architecture Masterworks Collection. Lacquered wood frame, padded leather seat and headrest, chromed brass fittings.
