The famed, ultimate Pop Art sectional pod sofa!! In all the 20th C design history books!!
Archizoom's Safari of 1968 is less a sofa than a room within the room: four fibreglass modules, two armchairs and two sofas, whose wave-shaped backs close into a ring you step into through a gap and sink into together. The leopard print, repeated on the foam carpet at its centre, was a knowing nod to Claes Oldenburg's Bedroom Ensemble and a deliberate embrace of kitsch against the rule that form follows function. It is in the collections of the Centre Pompidou and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
No finer conversation pit than this sectional --- it looks like something straight out of a 1960's New Wave French or Italian movie!! Can't you just see Jane Fonda as Barbarella sitting there --- or James Bond arguing with Dr. No??
